I have a silicone mould the wall are pretty thin about quarter of an each ,I tried several mixes ,when de moúld it always breaks up ,any solutions,thanks

I needed to elevate my front porch to prevent pudding. It was about 1/8 in below surface in two spots. I used portland and all purpose sand. The sand was so gritty I couldn't get it to smooth out. I wonder if portland alond would help and then brush it for texture

Confused. The description for each on Home Depot's website state they are used for essential the same things, ie. outdoor use and for water resistance.

I can't find any accelerator additive locally but I've found Calcium Hypochlorite 70% in a pool water maintenance product. Can I use it as accelerator?

Hello Sir, thank you for the explanation. Could you help on an outside tile terrace which is over a garage and leaks. Before replacing cracked joints I am looking for a good binding product to inject as to bind any lose parts underneath the tiles and fix any corroded spaces underneath the tiles. I think you could use parafin wax on the surface by heating the concrete and allow parafin or candle wax to just melt and spread around for a mold release.

It isn't that simple. It depends on the size of the gravel. Sometimes you use multiple sorts of gravel, of different sizes. Essentially, you need to use a mix where the amount of slury resulting from mizing water and cement is enough to coat all sand and gravel particles completely (but not more than that). Computing the ratios is complex, and by necessity imprecise, because gravel and sand grains are naturally not uniform in shape, which is why some experimentation is also needed. Therefore, different countries have developed different recipes for concrete, prescribing the quantities of cement, sand, different grades of gravel and water that go into mixes destined for different kinds of works - it makes no sense to use the same grade of concrete in a walkway and in a high-rise building's basement. Those recipes differ slightly, from one place to another, because the kind of aggregate (sand and gravel) that's available also differs, and the recipes take those differences into account. What's damaging for concrete is to make it too wet. Once it sets, the water that isn't needed to react chemically with the cement to bind sand and pebbles together evaporates and leaves microscopic empty spaces behind. Those empty spaces weaken concrete. What also makes concrete weak is too much cement. Concrete's strength doesn't în fact come from cement. Cement is just a rather soft binder between much harder particles. The hardness and strength of concrete comes from the stones and sand particles that lock the stones in place. You can easily test this by creating a small block made solely of cement and water - it will turn out brittle and weak. One more important thing for concrete is the kind of sand that you use. Desert sand, or sand that was used for years in a sandbox or on some walkway, or beach sand, is not good for concrete. That sand was rolled around by wind and other forces for a very long time, and its particles have lost any sharp edges. Sharp edges on the grains of sand and gravel used in concrete are very important for concrete's strength. Without those sharp edges , there's no interlocking. Without interlocking, concrete's strength relies mainly on the binding properties of cement, which, as discussed above, is a rather weak material on its own.

I submerge and keep my castings in water for 2 weeks after six hours of curing. Once removed and dried, I have a SERIOUS concrete dusting issue. I brush them, and white powder is all over the place. I used a tube of Daler Rowney's simply acrylic to do several washes of color in varying strengths and that works superb ... The downside is it takes a little while because you got to let the paint absorb into the cement that's why I'm looking for a different way to color cement but you get vibrant vibrant colors and with the pallet of red blue yellow white and possibly green

If the crete dries at any point, is the process finished? What if the outside is dry but the inside still holds a little moisture? Is it worth continuing?

I wonder if an environment with constant misting would do the same thing? Like a room at 100% humidity through constantly misting in a room. Its easier to scale up storage if not under water.

Hi there. I am experimenting doing small objects with a formula with an acrylic additive no more than 10% of the weight of the portland cement. Also reduce water with a plasticier max 1% of cement weight. Given that, do you think the wet curing should stil go for 30 days? and after that how much does take to dry to apply a sealer?

No such thing as “ surface layer” concrete is one uniform layer. Top is “finished”, but it is not a layer. Keep tip about 12 to 16 inches away you’ll not damage anything.

I’ve been casting concrete pots for a while but I still get some pots that cracked inside the mold. My sement:sand ratio is 1:1 by volume. what can cause these pots to crack inside the mold?
